Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao is understood to have decided against declaring the Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 as official function.
There have been demands both from the Bharatiya Janata Party and also the Communists to declare September 17 as the Telangana Liberation Day officially, as it was on this day that the Nizam had acceded the erstwhile Hyderabad State with Indian Union in 1948.
Even the Telangana Rashtra Samithi used to celebrate the Liberation Day in the past considering it as a freedom to Telangana.
However, after coming to power, KCR is said to be reluctant to celebrate the day officially, as it antagonises Muslim community and opposing the Nizam rule.
Since KCR has been praising the Nizam rule, he cannot talk against him by celebrating the function since it would hurt the Mulsims, particularly the MIM.
“Even KCR is afraid of communal fanatics for organizing Telangana Merger Day on September 17 officially,” CPI leader K Narayana said.
He lamented that the Telangana Armed Struggle failing to get recognition even after achieving statehood to Telangana was painful.
He demanded that the KCR government take steps to organize Telangana Merger Day celebrations in the State on September 17 officially.
