KCR joins hands with DMK to fight Modi?

It looks like Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to mount pressure on the Narendra Modi government on increasing the reservations for SCs, STs and Muslims by mobilising the support of like-minded political parties.

Apparently peeved at the denial of appointment by Modi for a one-on-one discussion on the Muslim reservations issue, KCR on Monday called up and held talks with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) working president M K Stalin in Chennai on the strategies to corner the Centre.

Stalin on issued a statement extending support to KCR who demanded that the Centre delegate more powers to the states to decide on the quantum of reservations to be fixed for the weaker sections, including SCs, STs, OBCs and minorities.

Welcoming KCR’s demand, Stalin said he would fully support KCR’s efforts to uphold the state’s rights to determine the reservation policies.

The DMK leader said Tamil Nadu was able to provide 69 per cent reservations to weaker sections only because of the efforts put by his party.

He even expressed readiness to join forces with other States as well as political parties to lead a delegation to New Delhi to request the Centre in this regard and even stage a protest at Jantar Mantar, if necessary.

KCR thanked him for extending support to his struggle for more powers to the states. They agreed to work together in this regard and also mobilise the support of other states as well.

It may be recalled that KCR told the state assembly recently that he would fight for delegation of powers to the states with regard to increasing the reservations for SCs, STs and minorities.

If necessary, he would stage a protest dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to mount pressure on the Centre demanding more powers to the states.
