Kavitha's MLC Resignation Triggers Political Debate

Kavitha's MLC Resignation Triggers Political Debate

The proposed resignation of Nizamabad MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has become controversial, sparking intense political debate across the undivided Nizamabad district.

Kavitha has announced that she will visit the Legislative Council on January 5 to formally submit her resignation.

Political observers say uncertainty over whether her resignation will be accepted has raised several questions, as the move carries wider political implications.

Kavitha became an MLC after R Bhupathi Reddy resigned from the BRS in October 2020.

She was later elected unanimously in December 2021 as an MLC representing urban and rural local bodies, including MPPs, ZPTCs, municipal corporators and councillors.

Amid growing internal differences within the BRS, Kavitha announced her decision to step down from the MLC post.

However, since holding a fresh election without the same electoral college is not possible at present, her resignation has turned into a sensitive political issue.

Leaders and party workers in the undivided Nizamabad district are closely watching whether the Council will accept her resignation.

In recent months, Kavitha has openly criticised the BRS leadership.

She first targeted her brother and BRS working president K T Rama Rao, and later former minister and MLA T Harish Rao. Following these remarks, the BRS suspended her from the party.

Since then, Kavitha has been active in politics under the banner of Telangana Jagruthi.

She was first elected as a Member of Parliament from Nizamabad in 2014, but lost in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Her MLC post later became her main political platform.

With her resignation now under question, the issue has gained importance in Telangana politics.
