Jagan Under Pressure On Kapu Quota

In a few days from now, YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy will be completing his padayatra in East Godavari district and entering Visakhapatnam.

So far, Jagan has not come out with any concrete assurance on the most contentious issue of reservations for Kapus, who are predominant in East and West Godavari districts.

The Kapu community, which has been fretting and fuming at Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for taking it easy on the Kapu reservation issue which is pending with the Centre, is eagerly awaiting a positive statement from Jagan in this regard.

Though the YSRC president has been getting good crowds to his meetings in the Godavari districts, the Kapu community is getting frustrated as he has not made any statement on the reservations issue so far.

Even the community leaders within the YSRC are of the view that if Jagan remains silent on the demand for Kapu quota, the party might not get the much needed support in these two districts.

Moreover, Jana Sena Party leader and actor Pawan Kalyan is all set to tour the Godavari districts now and if he speaks up on Kapu reservations, there is every possibility that the Kapu votes might tilt towards Jana Sena. And that would ultimately benefit Chandrababu Naidu.

Jagan, however, reportedly told his party leaders that he did not want to make false promises and cheat people like Naidu did.

“As per the Supreme Court order, the total percentage of reservations should not exceed 50 per cent, unless the Centre makes a Constitutional amendment raising this limit. This is not in my hands. If I make the promise and do not deliver it, I will have to face the blame like Naidu,” he is learnt to have said.

The party leaders are expecting that Jagan might make a statement at his Kakinada public meeting to be held shortly, giving clarity on his party’s stand.
