Jagan Rules Out Kapu Reservations!

YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has taken a major political risk by refusing to give any promise on ensuring reservations for Kapus under Backward Classes quota.

On Saturday, addressing a public meeting held at Jaggampeta in East Godavari district, which is considered to be a stronghold of Kapus, Jagan said he did not want to give any false promises like Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

“Supreme Court has categorically ruled that the total percentage of reservations should not exceed 50 per cent. So, how is it possible for the state government to provide any reservations to Kapus?

It is for the Central government, which has to get a Constitutional amendment done in Parliament. So, it is not in the purview of the state. Therefore, I cannot promise any reservations to Kapus,” Jagan asserted emphatically.

He alleged that Naidu had made several false promises and had cheated all sections of the people.

“He has boasted of reservations to the Kapu community, knowing thoroughly well that it is not in the purview of the State government,” he pointed out.

The YSRC president, however, promised to enhance the budget for the Kapu Welfare Corporation so as to provide maximum financial assistance to the community.

“Naidu promised that he would allocate Rs 5,000 crores to the Kapu Corporation for five years but he has gone back on both the promises. I promise you that the Kapu Corporation would be allocated Rs 10, 000 cores for five years for the welfare of the community,” he said.
