Jagan Effect; Naidu Opposes Telangana Projects!

YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's decision to launch a three-day fast from May 16 to 18 in protest against the illegal construction of irrigation projects by the Telangana government has finally had an impact on Telugu Desam party president and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Jagan’s proposed fast and construction of projects by the Telangana government were the main subjects discussed at the AP Cabinet meeting held on Monday.

Naidu told media later that he would write a letter to the Centre, complaining against the construction of various projects by the Telangana government on Krishna and Godavari rivers in violation of the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act.

“Such indiscriminate construction of projects by the upper riparian States will have serious effect on the irrigation sector in Andhra Pradesh. We will ask the Centre to intervene and do justice to Andhra Pradesh. Any project should be taken up only in consultation with the riparian States and as per the allocations made by the various tribunals,” he said.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Centre would consider any such letters from Naidu, since the projects have indirect blessings of the Centre.
