The very mention of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s name sends shivers down the spine of farmers.
Every time that Naidu comes to power, they are at the receiving end as Naidu tends to neglect the vocation of agriculture completely.
Recently, the YSRCP alleged that 86 farmers have committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh.
Responding to this allegation, Chandrababu Naidu said, “It has come to our notice that 6 farmers have committed suicide in Anantpur district. We will do everything to provide for their families. The number given by YSRCP is false. Let them show proof first.”
What the Chief Minister should understand is that it is not a question of 6 or 86. Why have such conditions been allowed to persist which is forcing the farmers to take their own lives and what remedial measures can be taken on a war footing.
Merely announcing an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh is in no way going to remove the problems being faced by farmers.
Of course, since the mainstream media is by and large a huge supporter of Naidu, it is very much possible that the suicides of the farmers in AP hasn’t received priority. But how long can one hide the truth?
