The Congress Party's decision to suspend Botsa Satyanarayana from the Party for indulging in anti-party activities is meaningless as he had already tendered his resignation. But the main issue is the effect Botsa’s entry into the YSRCP will have over the public's perception towards YSRCP.
Botsa in order to become the CM of bifurcated AP sabotaged the interests of the ‘Samaikhyandhra movement’ and the people of Vizianagaram resorted to violence against his properties, in anger.
Curfew was imposed in this peaceful town, unprecedented in its history. Also, his alleged involvement in the ‘Volkswagen scam’ does not do his image any good. Now Jagan does need strong leaders to bolster the YSRCP, especially in coastal Andhra. Bothsa is a politician who came up from the grassroots.
Botsa started his career as a youth Congress leader and was elected DCCB chairman in the early 90s. He was elected as MP in the late 90s and held many portfolios in the cabinets chief ministers YS Rajasekhar Reddy, K Rosaiah, Kiran Kumar Reddy, besides the post of the PCC chief. So, he has a firm grip on the system, a fact that can prove to be invaluable in elections and when it comes to mobilizing the masses.
In that sense, he is truly a prize catch for Jagan. But still, his track record pales into insignificance compared to his role against the ‘Samaikhyandhra’ agitation.
Some political analysts opine that all of it will be erased from public memory in the next five years. Some feel that people will never forgive Bothsa.
Will Jagan ultimately benefit from Bothsa in the YSRCP or will he prove to be a setback?
