After Hudhud, Narendra Modi came to Vizag to assess the damage and then asked Chandrababu Naidu, “What are the losses to AP because of Hudhud and how much do you need?” Naidu’s response was, “Rs 67000 crore.”
Hearing this, Modi fainted and only recovered when some Hudhud water was sprinkled on him. He thereafter sanctioned Rs 1000 crore and left, of which AP has only received Rs 400 crore or Rs 600 crore to date.
Cutting to the present, AP is once again ravaged by floods and around 146 villages have been affected. Naidu has requested Rs 1000 crore in assistance. This is a huge climb down for Naidu and probably is the outcome of the ‘Hudhud’ experience.
If Modi sticks to his earlier formula, then AP this time will probably get around Rs 50 to Rs 80 crore. Which politician in his right mind would ask for Rs 67000 crore as cyclone relief?
