Congress president Sonia Gandhi might be totally beleaguered with the humiliating defeat in the recent general elections and her image got a beating with a series of scams that surfaced during the UPA-II regime, but there is no dearth of her diehard fans who demand even Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in the country, for her.
Take for example former minister Dr P Shankar Rao. On Monday, he demanded that AICC President Sonia Gandhi be given the prestigious Bharat Ratna for her contribution to the country.
Speaking to media persons in the Assembly premises, Shankar Rao said that Sonia Gandhi played a major role in protecting the country's economic while the rest of the world was facing financial crisis. He said Sonia Gandhi's role in making India a strong country was highly appreciable and therefore, she should be given conferred the Bharat Ratna Award.
Further, he said Sonia Gandhi deserves Bharat Ratna Award for granting statehood to Telangana region and other sacrifices that she made for the country.
Shankar Rao said that the BJP has lost its shine and people have started rejecting the party within 100 days. He said that the results of bye-elections were a clear indication that the Congress party was on the revival mode.
