Has Jagan given up plan to align with BJP?

Has YSR Congress party given up its plan to align with the Bharatiya Janata Party at least for now?

The answer seems to be yes, according to political analysts who are studying the statements being made by the YSRC leaders including its president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the recent past.

The fact that Jagan has given a call for the dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on March 5 questioning the Centre for not conceding the demand for special category status and resignation of his party MPs after April 6 shows the changed mind of the YSRC leadership.

At the same time, Jagan has also mooted the proposal for moving a no-confidence motion against Narendra Modi government on the issue of special category status.

Though he does not have enough strength and his plan is aimed at cornering the Telugu Desam Party, it also indicates Jagan is not keen on forging alliance with the BJP for now.

Analysts say Jagan might have realised that the BJP has lost its image in Andhra Pradesh after the latest fiasco over budgetary allocations to the state and any tie-up with the saffron party would only prove counter-productive to the YSRC.

So, Jagan has decided to fight out the next elections all alone without the BJP support.

Since he is not directly attacking Modi and the BJP, but targeting only the TDP, he can still continue the backroom negotiations with Delhi to see that he would wriggle out of the cases before the next elections.
