Government is not a business, Mr Naidu!

Coming down heavily on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his warning that the people should not use the civic and other amenities of the government, including pensions if they do not vote for him, YSR Congress has said that his governance is laden with corruption and the governance has been on commercial lines.

“Running a government is not a business. It is the responsibility of an elected political party. His remarks go against the principles of democracy. He is speaking with utter audacity stating that all pensions, roads, electricity and other facilities were created by him and if people should refrain from using them if they do not vote for him,” YSRC spokesman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy said.

He said such remarks would only speak of his intolerance as it is the public money that was spent for laying of roads and other such amenities and the money was not coming from his ill-gotten wealth.

On Naidu’s comment that he can pay Rs 5,000 per vote, Bhumana said it only showed the bent of mind as Naidu was charged in the cash for vote scandal.

Even Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao told a media channel that he had spent Rs 11 crore for winning the assembly seat.

“All this shows that the party and leadership have faith only in buying votes, seats and MLAs which is a shameful act in a democracy. Naidu’s remark attracts penal action and he can be sent to jail for giving such comments,” he said.
