Senior actor-producer and former Rajya Sabha member Manchu Mohan Babu does not seem to be consistent with his political plans.
It almost a year ago that he made an announcement of his return to active politics. He told media in April that he would disclose the details of his political re-entry shortly. He even declared then that he would not float any new party, but would join one of the existing parties.
But since then, he had not made any such declaration. However, he gave hints that he would be joining YSR Congress party by saying that he had close family relations with party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
At the same time, he extended his wholehearted support to Kapu strongman Mudragada Padmanbham. He not only sent his son Vishnu to call on fasting Mudragada, but also went along with his wife to Kirlampudi to express solidarity with the Kapu leader. Apparently, his mentor Dasari Narayana Rao, a Kapu leader, convinced him to join the YSRC, which is also backing Mudragada.
However, Mohan Babu sprang a surprise on the media and also his followers by holding closed door talks with Telugu Desam Party president and AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for over an hour when the latter came to his native village Naravaripalle in Chittoor district for Sankranti festival.
Though he told media that he came to the village to greet Naidu on festival, sources close to him said he expressed his willingness to join the TDP and that he would play active role in the party.
Mohan Babu was in the TDP for long time but came out later differing with Naidu. “I was forced to go out of the TDP by certain elements,” he said in the past.
