Fact Sheet: No Change In Mindsets!

“What’s in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet,” said the ‘Bard of Avon’ in his play ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

By extension and with due respect to William Shakespeare, the same saying may be modified as “What’s in the name of a Party? A politician irrespective of the Party he is in would still smell as dirty.”

A scenario that caused untold anguish to the people of Seemandhra before bifurcation is repeating itself again.

During the Samaikhyandhra movement, none of the politicians resigned their posts for the sake of the movement. Chiranjeevi, Purandeswari, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, Sabbam Hari, Lagadapati Rajagopal etc, all of them stabbed ‘Telugu Thalli’ in the back.

Kavuri actually spearheaded the Samaikhyandhra movement initially. But on being made a Union Minister, he abandoned the people and their cause. Similar was the case with Purandeswari. Theirs were the unkindest cuts of all. About Chiranjeevi, the lesser said the better.

Suffice to say that the Andhra people know that this bunch of politicians have put their own interests above that of Andhra Pradesh.

Post bifurcation, Naidu came to power on the development plank despite having issued a letter in support of Telangana. The TDP also allied with the BJP, another reason for the Modi fans to vote for the TDP. But the BJP has ditched AP once again by not granting the ‘special status’ to AP.

In such a scenario, any self-respecting Party would sever its alliance with the BJP and fight for the special status.

Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Sujana Chowdary should resign immediately from the Cabinet and fight for the cause of AP. But no! Their positions are far more important for them than the interests of the people.

And now to make up for the funds crunch, they will go about shifting the burden on to the people in the form of higher taxation. As always, it is the people who end up paying for the misdeeds of the politicians.

These politicians could not (would not) prevent the division of the State. How can they be expected to stand up for the cause of a special status?
