The State government of Telangana waived off Rs 532.57 crore towards penalty of property tax for defaulters in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits for the financial years 2014-15 and 2015-16.
The move would benefit around 6, 24,709 tax payers in the city. This is a great incentive to people to stop paying their bills on time because come election time, politicians like KCR will waive them off.
Who are the idiots then? The hard-working conscientious people who pay their taxes dutifully on time. And the extra tax burden will again have to be borne by the upright citizens.
India is perhaps the only country where bad behavior gets rewarded in this fashion. Loans, taxes, BSNL bills, huge bank loan waivers, building regularisations etc etc. The list is endless.
With such regressive behavior encouraged and nourished by people like KCR and CBN, how can we expect to call ourselves developed?
