Cricketer Turned Actor Turned Politician?

Cricketer Turned Actor Turned Politician?

It is the cursed fate of this nation that Mohammad Azharuddin, convicted of match-fixing and banned for life from the sport is today a law maker and graces the halls of Parliament.

Now, another cricketer may soon join the ranks of cricketer-turned politicians. He is none other than Sreesanth.

But there is a difference though in that Sreesanth has been exonerated of all charges in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing case.

Sreesanth is currently shooting for a Bollywood film produced by Pooja Bhatt. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to field cricketer S Sreesanth as its candidate for Kerala Assembly elections to be held on May 16.

Members of Sreesanth’s family said he received a call from a top BJP leader in Delhi requesting him to contest from the Thrippunithura Assembly constituency. They also said Sreesanth is likely to meet BJP chief Amit Shah when he visits Kerala.

When contacted, Kerala BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan said the State leadership was not aware of the move but “things will be clear in two days.”

A top BJP leader also said someone from BJP’s central leadership must have contacted Sreesanth directly “as he is a celebrity.” How things can change!

A year ago, Sreesanth was in jail and abused by everyone for disgracing the nation. Today, Amit Shah himself is calling him and asking him to contest the elections.
