Congress Nervous On Kodangal By-Poll?

Congress Nervous On Kodangal By-Poll?

The Telangana Congress party has decided to keep silent on the resignation drama of Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy on the pretext that it is his personal decision.

Though Revanth has claimed that he has resigned from his assembly membership as well before defecting from the Telugu Desam Party into the Congress and even surrendered his gunmen and other previleges, his resignation letter has reached the Speaker’s office yet.

And with the assembly coming to an end on Friday, the resignation has remained a suspense.

Apparently, the Congress party has come to the conclusion that it is too risky to fight the by-election in Kodangal right now.

Reason is simple: it will be an isolated by-election and the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi will mobilise all its forces, money and muscle power to this constituency to win the seat, as had happened in Nandyal, where Naidu did the same to win the seat for the TDP.

Already, the TRS had trapped all the major TRS leaders and cadre in Kodangal by spending huge amount and Revanth has become virtually handicapped in his own constituency.

TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has entrusted the task of ensuring the TRS victory to his nephew, irrigation minister T Harish Rao, who is a mastermind in political manipulations.

So, if Revanth really quits, it will be next to impossible for him to win the seat. It will be damaging not only to his reputation, but also to the Congress, which claimed to have gained strength with his entry.

So, it is better to keep silent for now and wait for the developments to unfold till the next general elections.

If Kodangal goes to polls along with all other constituencies, the TRS leadership will not be able to concentrate only on this constituency and then Revanth will be able to fight the polls with ease.
