Changes Come From Within

Changes Come From Within

Referring to the state of affairs in Uttarakhand, Lok Satta Party founder Jayaprakash Narayan said that it is time that people elected their Chief Ministers directly rather than through the legislature party.

He said that to overcome the menace of purchase of MLAs and corruption in politics, direct elections be held separately for the post of Chief Minister and members of Assembly.

There should not be a situation where the existence of a State Chief Minister was dependent on the party MLAs, he said.

What JP said is good. But in India, if changes are to be made to the system, it can only be made by those within the system.

To be part of the system, you need to contest the elections. Unfortunately, JP has given up on this route. By the way, did anyone notice that if JP’s suggestion were to be actually implemented, then he would emerge as a frontrunner for the CM’s post?
