To refute the Congress party's allegations of injustice to the State by the BJP, the BJP High Command has decided to field Kavuri Sambasiva Rao as a counter to KVP Ramachandra Rao and other Congress seniors.
The decision was taken by Amit Shah when the State BJP delegation went to call on him. The decision by Amit Shah is nothing short of ironic.
Kavuri Sambasiva Rao was the spearhead of the Samaikhyandhra movement and he was in the Congress party at that time. But he ditched the movement and became silent after being made a Union Minister by Sonia Gandhi. Simply put, Kavuri shamelessly cheated the people of Andhra Pradesh for the sake of Union Minister’s post.
After the Congress was routed in the polls and NDA government was formed, Kavuri obviously had to leave the Congress as it does not have any future in AP anymore.
He tried to join the TDP but his entry was blocked by the local TDP leaders of his constituency. He then joined the BJP.
The point is : How can the BJP expect to fare well in AP by admitting traitors of Andhra Pradesh like Kavuri and Daggubati Purandeswari into its fold?
They have given Kavuri the task of criticizing the State Congress leaders who played a double-game during bifurcation. Well, in case the BJP does not know, Kavuri figures right at the top of the list of those leaders.
