With its eyes set on the Warangal Lok Sabha by-elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party is desperately trying to woo the electorate by taking up the agitation for Telangana formation day at Warangal on September 17.
The BJP unit of Hanamkonda on Monday staged a dharna demanding that the State government celebrate Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 officially.
A large number of party workers attended the program. Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy, who took up padayatra in Warangal, said celebrating Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 would be a true tribute to Telangana armed struggle martyrs.
He questioned why the TRS was not evincing interest to celebrate September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day officially when it wrested power in the State on the Telangana sentiment.
After paying tributes at martyrs’ memorial at Hanamkonda, the BJP leaders went in a procession to the Collectorate demanding that the State government celebrate Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 officially.
On reaching the Collectorate, the police personnel stopped them and arrested Kishan Reddy and others and shifted them to a nearby police station.
