BJP had no role in TDP victory in 2014?

BJP had no role in TDP victory in 2014?

There is a proverb in Telugu: “Eru datentha varaku Oda Mallaiah, Eru datina taruvaatha bodi Mallaiah,” which is used to refer a person who takes the help of a boatman to cross the river and discredits the same boatman after reaching the shore.

This proverb aptly suits our Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu.

He had forged an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party just before the general election and assembly elections in 2014 after realising that the Narendra Modi wave was sweeping across the nation and the UPA graph was going down.

The Modi wave has obviously helped the TDP and its alliance partner BJP also could win a couple of MP seats and four MLA seats. Added to it, the campaign by power star Pawan Kalyan also helped the TDP to a great extent.

Now that the BJP graph is down, especially in AP because of denial of special category status, Naidu quickly moved pawns towards breaking the alliance.

He now says the BJP was not of much use to the TDP in 2014 elections, but it was the BJP which had benefitted out of the alliance with the TDP.

“We had allied with the BJP and joined the NDA government later only with an intention to get the maximum benefits to the state,” he said.

According to Naidu, there was no additional benefit in terms of voting for the TDP because of the alliance with the BJP. Before the 2014 elections, the TDP achieved victory in the local body elections.

“There was no difference in the percentage of voting for the TDP in the assembly elections, compared to local body elections,” he said.

This is nothing but rank opportunism of Naidu. And it is pretty clear that he is trying to get rid of the BJP for petty political gains!
