Jairam Ramesh proved once again that the Congress is never to be underestimated and the TRS got an inkling of what the Congress was capable of when Jairam Ramesh announced that if the Congress were to come to power, a Dalit would be made the Chief Minister in Telangana.
This is not a small thing. It could have the potential to trigger a large scale exodus of the Telangana vote bank and that of the TRS in particular, to the Congress.
The Congress always calls itself a secular Party, but has always been at the forefront in resorting to politics based on religion and caste.
The most capable person should be made the CM irrespective of any other considerations, but by announcing straightaway that it would be a Dalit, the Congress has shamelessly resorted to vote bank politics once again.
This move by the Congress seems to have hit the TRS hard for Harish Rao; the nephew of KCR immediately arranged a press conference to condemn the Congress statement.
“The Congress did not care for the Dalits at all during its tenure of ten years in the State. Why the sudden love for them, now?” he questioned.
Harish Rao would do well to remember that it was his uncle KCR who during the peak of the T-agitation first declared that a Dalit would be made the CM of Telangana. This was merely to give them a false hope and rope them into the T-agitation so that he could mint money.
Now that the dream of a separate state has actually been realized, he obviously wants the CM chair for himself or his useless son.
KCR might have prevailed over the peace loving Andhra people, but back home he would have to contend with people as opportunistic and uncouth as himself. Jairam Ramesh has just shown him the trailer of the things to come.
