Bankruptcy Forced Butta To Join TDP?

Bankruptcy Forced Butta To Join TDP?

Though there had been speculations about YSR Congress party MP from Kurnool Butta Renuka joining the Telugu Desam Party, she had been denying it outright and had pledged her loyalty to YSRC many times.

Apparently, she had been in a state of confusion about her plans, but finally, she made up her mind to join the TDP, albeit unofficially.

Sources said Renuka had no intentions to quit the YSRC till recently. However, the industrial group being run by her family had been in deep losses – according to an estimate, the losses ran into a few hundred crores of rupees – and she had virtually become bankrupt.

She had explained her situation before YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and told him that if she was retained as the candidate for Kurnool MP seat, she would be able to overcome her financial troubles with her clout in Delhi.

However, Jagan told her that it would be a costly affair if she wanted to contest the MP elections, since she had to bear the election expenditure of the MLA candidates in the assembly segments under Kurnool. So, he suggested that she could contest from Yemmiganur constituency.

Apparently realising that she would not get the MP ticket in YSRC, Renuka lobbied with the TDP leadership which agreed to consider her request positively. That is why, she preferred to shift her loyalties to the TDP, though there was no 100 per cent guarantee of her getting the MP ticket even there.

However, she would be able to make up for her financial losses at least to some extent in the next one year, if she joins the TDP. Hence, the decision, sources said.
