Amaravati Bigger Than Washington And Singapore?

Is Amaravati, the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh State going to be bigger than Washington, capital of the United States? Or Singapore, the favourite city of AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu? Or for that matter, national capital of New Delhi?

These questions were raised by the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Wednesday.

Party spokesman N Tuasi Reddy came down heavily on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on extending the limits of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) of Amaravati by 1284 square km -- from 7,068 square km to 8,352 square km.

He alleged that Naidu was just craving for land and thus, has been acquiring land indiscriminately though there was no such need.

He said Washington was spread over a total area of only 29.5 square km while the whole country of Singapore was spread in an extent of 675 square km.

Similarly, New York city has been developed in an area of 1214 sq km while London, the capital of the United Kingdom was built in just 1572 sq km and Paris in 2845 sq km.

He also pointed out that New Delhi and Kolkata are built in less than 2000 sq km.

“When the world famous cities are spread in these limited areas, why Chandrababu wants so much of land for capital city except for doing real estate business,” he asked.
