A Contradiction Unto Himself

Vijay Mallya had tweeted that he has full faith in the Indian judicial system and as a Member of Parliament; he “respects and will comply with the laws of the land.”

But in an interview to an English newspaper, when asked about his plans to return to India, Mallya said "Of course I want to return. But I'm not sure I'll get a fair chance to present my side. I've already been branded a criminal. I do not feel the time is right. I feel passions are high. People need to think rationally. They need to understand that business, whether large or small, has risks involved... India has given me everything. It made me Vijay Mallya.”

It is this contradiction in his statements that is striking. When Mallya has absolute confidence in the laws of the land and in the Indian judicial system, how can he say that he’ll not get a fair chance to present his side of the story?

This is more or less an excuse for having run away from the country. Of course, even a child will know that Vijay Mallya escaping from the country just on the eve of the banks approaching the courts is too much of a coincidence to be believed in.

He couldn’t have got away without help from the Centre.
