The Telangana Government is contemplating to increase the pay package of MLAs and MLCs by nearly 400 percent.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao discussed the issue with Legislature Secretary Raja Sadaram and other senior officials in a review meeting held at his camp office on Tuesday.
KCR directed the officials to study the pay packages of legislators in other State so as to prepare a new pay package for Telangana legislators.
Presently, Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Council Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Whips and Leaders of Opposition are having cabinet rank and getting equal pay and perks. However, the legislators are drawing a salary of Rs. 95,000 per month.
The State Government is spending Rs. 14.94 crore per annum on the salaries of legislators which comes to around 0.001% of Rs. 1.15 lakh crore State Budget. With a view to motivate the legislators, the State Government is contemplating to increase the salaries by almost 300 per cent.
