Will YSRC Really Expel Raghurama Raju?

Will YSRC Really Expel Raghurama Raju?

The show-cause notice issued by the YSRCP to its Lok Sabha member from Narsapuram K Raghurama Krishnam Raju on Wednesday has led to an interesting debate in the political circles.

The notice, issued by party general secretary and parliamentary party leader V Vijay Sai Reddy, asked for an explanation from Raghurama Krishnam Raju within a week for his derogatory utterances against the party as well as party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and respond as to why action should not be taken against him.

Nowhere in the notice was there any indication that he would be expelled or suspended from the party, but going by the tone and tenor of the notice indicated that the party is very serious over the comments made by the MP and that they were intolerable.

Since Raju had made the comments openly in the media and serious allegations against the party in his letter to the Lok Sabha speaker and the Union home ministry, it is nothing but natural to believe that the show-cause notice was just a formality and the suspension of the MP was inevitable, even if he gives an explanation.

However, sources said there is a talk in the YSRC that the party might not want to make Raghurama Krishnam Raju a hero in the media by suspending or expelling him. The issuance of show-cause notice was only to send a message that indiscipline would not be tolerated.

“There is a feeling in the party that if Raju is suspended or expelled, it will clear the way for him to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. So, it is better to ignore him and sideline him so that he would fade out gradually. There are always methods to clip his wings and tighten the noose around him,” sources said.
