Why Is TDP Stalling House Site Distribution?

AP state assembly speaker Tammineni Sitaram has found fault with the TDP leaders for stalling the house site distribution programme of the YSRC government in the state by moving courtsith various litigations.

“Is it right on the part of these people to stop giving house sites to the poor? I want to know whether these gentlemen consider the YSR housing welfare scheme good or bad? I am asking them as the speaker of the assembly,” Tammineni said.

He said if the scheme was really bad, the government itself would withdraw it.

“They don’t have to depend on the court judgements. Let us see how long will these people stop the implementation of the scheme. One day or the other, the true colours of these gentlemen who moved the courts will get exposed,” the speaker said.

Stating that nobody would appreciate the moves of the TDP leaders to create legal hurdles to such a noble scheme, Tammineni said the opposition had every right to point out any irregularities or lapses in the scheme.

“There is nothing in pointing out the irregularities. We respect their suggestions. But how can they stop the entire scheme? The government is ready to implement the house site distribution scheme whenever it gets clearance from the courts,” he said.

On the three capitals issue, too, Tammineni criticised the opposition.

“Chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is firm on creating three capitals cities. Time will decide when it will happen,” he said.

TDP, however, said it was against house site distribution for the poor, but was only questioning the methods adopted by the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

“Nobody is happy with the way lands are being acquired for the scheme. In fact, the YSRC leaders themselves are facing PILs in the courts on land acquisitions, levelling of lands and selection of beneficiaries,” a TDP leader said.
