Why did ex-DGP of Andhra took premature VRS?

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) official spokesperson and Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board Chairman, Neelayapalem Vijaya Kumar, on Monday claimed that more shocking revelations are likely to emerge in the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) scam involving the evaluation of Group-I examination papers.

Speaking to reporters, Vijay Kumar alleged that former Director General of Police Gautam Sawang, who later served as APPSC Chairman, was equally complicit in the scam.

He expressed serious doubts about Sawang’s decision to opt for voluntary retirement (VRS), stating that there are many unanswered questions surrounding his sudden exit from service despite having three more years left.

“If Gautam Sawang, who was appointed by former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, is truly innocent, then why did he opt for VRS and step away when he still had years of service remaining?” Vijay Kumar questioned.

He noted that removing an APPSC Chairman is a complex process that involves the Supreme Court, Parliament, and various committees — making Sawang’s voluntary resignation all the more suspicious.

Vijay Kumar pointed out that the Group-I notification, originally issued during the TDP government in 2018, was executed by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) administration, during which massive irregularities allegedly occurred in the evaluation process.

He accused then-APPSC Secretary PSR Anjaneyulu and Chairman Sawang of bypassing proper protocols and handing over the evaluation work to a private firm named “Camsign,” allegedly run by their associates.

According to Kumar, the evaluations were conducted digitally in a “work-from-home” format by unqualified individuals.

Candidates who noticed discrepancies challenged the process in court, which subsequently ordered a manual re-evaluation of answer sheets. However, Kumar claimed that officials ignored the court's directive and conducted a secret re-evaluation at Hailand Resort, located between Vijayawada and Guntur.

“Instead of qualified professors, the answer sheets were evaluated by auto drivers’ wives, welders, housemaids, and mothers of infants. It’s an outright disgrace,” he said.

He further alleged that both Sawang and Anjaneyulu lied in court, denying any re-evaluation at the resort, even though candidates submitted supporting evidence such as food and security bills.

Kumar also accused Sawang of concealing the re-evaluated answer sheets.
