Viveka murder case: SC transfers case from AP

Finally, the ongoing investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the murder of former MP and YSR Congress party leader Y S Vivekananda Reddy will be shifted out of Andhra Pradesh.

Acting on a petition filed by Viveka’s daughter Dr Narreddy Sunitha and the counter-affidavit filed by the CBI, a Supreme Court bench on Wednesday agreed to transfer the case from Andhra Pradesh to another state.

The CBI said it would be better to shift the case to Karnataka, instead of Telangana as there is no safety for the witnesses from the accused even in Hyderabad.

However, Sunitha’s lawyers said they don’t mind shifting the case to any other state, including Telangana, other than continuing in Andhra Pradesh.

The Supreme Court also sought the opinion of the accused – Uma Shankar Reddy and Yerra Gangi Reddy on shifting the case to other state and wanted to know whether they want it to be done in Karnataka or Telangana.

Expressing unhappiness over the tardy progress of the case, the Supreme Court directed that the investigation be completed and case be brought to a logical conclusion at the earliest.

On Tuesday, the CBI filed an affidavit, agreeing with the contention of Sunitha that the Andhra Pradesh police had colluded with the accused in her father’s murder case and were intimidating the investigating officers by filing private cases against them.

Sunitha told the Supreme Court earlier that she had lost faith in the ongoing investigation by the CBI into her father’s murder case in Andhra Pradesh. Since there is no security to the CBI officials probing the murder case, it is better the investigation be entrusted to the CBI court in other state, supervised by the high court there.
