The investigation into the alleged adulteration of ghee used in the making of the famous Tirumala laddu took an interesting turn on Tuesday, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) reportedly questioning Appanna, personal assistant to former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman and Rajya Sabha member Y V Subba Reddy.
The SIT had issued notices to Appanna a few days ago and has been interrogating him over the past two days. Along with Appanna, six other TTD employees are also under investigation.
Sources revealed that, in addition to Appanna, notices are being prepared for two former senior officials involved in administrative decisions, as well as another influential figure who played a significant role in implementation.
So far, 15 individuals — including dairy owners and employees who supplied ghee to TTD — have been arrested in the case. Explosive revelations are reportedly emerging from the SIT's inquiry into this sensational laddu adulteration scandal.
The SIT is now turning its attention to three former high-ranking officials who had key roles in TTD’s administrative affairs. Notices will be issued to summon them for questioning.
Simultaneously, preparations are underway to issue lookout notices for these prominent individuals, whose testimonies are expected to play a crucial role in the investigation.
Established under Supreme Court directions, the SIT has been conducting an intensive probe from its base in Tirupati. Every aspect — from ghee tender procedures to supplier firms — is under scrutiny.
Raids have been carried out at supplier locations, leading to the arrest of four individuals. Inspections have also taken place at the Tirumala temple itself. According to sources, the SIT is now moving toward filing its first chargesheet in the case.
The SIT has questioned several people and is closely examining the ghee tender process and allegations of adulteration. Serving notices to these former officials could mark a significant turning point in the investigation.
