Temple attacks: Jagan to brief Modi, Shah

YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is leaving for New Delhi on Tuesday to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah.

This is the first visit of Jagan to New Delhi this year. Last time he visited Delhi was in December to meet Shah and a few other ministers. In his earlier visit to Delhi in September and October, he met Shah, Modi and others.

Jagan is likely to meet Amit Shah first and later Modi. In fact, he reportedly sought the appointment of the Prime Minister in the last week itself, but could not get it due to busy schedule of Modi on the occasion of vaccination programme.

Though the exact reason for Jagan’s visit to New Delhi this time is not known, sources say he is likely to submit a comprehensive report on the recent attacks on temples and desecration of idols of Hindu gods by some miscreants that drew nation-wide attention.

There were reports that Amit Shah himself made personal inquiries with the BJP leaders in Andhra to find out what exactly was happening. The Andhra BJP leaders have launched a virtual tirade against the Jagan government on the issue.

Sources said Jagan will brief the sequence of events that led to a systematic attack on temples, whenever his government launched any major welfare or developmental programme.

He is of the view that there is a deliberate attempt to divert the attention of the people from the good work he has been doing.

He would submit the list of political leaders suspected to be involved in the mudslinging against the government.

The chief minister would also request the Centre to order a CBI inquiry, if necessary, into the attacks on temples.

The request for a CBI inquiry into the Antarvedi chariot burning incident has already been pending with the Centre.

It is learnt Jagan would also seek clarity on the Centre’s proposal to hold simultaneous elections to the state assembly and Lok Sabha.

He is learnt to have completely clarity on the simultaneous polls issue and he would spell out his stand before the central leaders, sources said.
