Telangana leader wants name change for Kurnool

Even two days after the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government issuing a draft gazette notification on the creation of 13 more districts in the state, more and more demands are coming up from various quarters.

On Friday, even a senior Telangana leader came up with a demand to rename Kurnool district after former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Damodaram Sanjeevaiah.

He reminded that Sanjeevaiah, who hailed from the district, had done yeoman services to the state.

“When Jagan has decided to name Vijayawada district after NTR and tribal areas of Araku after Alluri Seetharama Raju, it is unfortunate that he did not think of naming Kurnool as Damodaram Sanjeevaiah district,” he said.

VH demanded that Jagan should consider this request and wanted that the local leaders should bring pressure on the government in this regard.

There are many such fresh demands. One such demand is to name Nandyal after former MP and popular leader late Bhuma Nagi Reddy.

Similarly, Telugu Desam Party in-charge of Mantrayalam Tikka Reddy demanded that Adoni be converted into a separate district, as it is culturally and language-wise different from rest of Kurnool.

The government’s decision to name Rayachoti as the district quarters of Annamayya district evoked strong protests from the people of Rajampet constituency. They pointed out that Rajampet was the native place of Annamacharya.
