TDP's Vizag Politics Now Led by Velagapudi

Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu has emerged as a key figure in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) politics of Visakhapatnam district.

Winning the Visakha East Assembly constituency for the fourth consecutive time, he now plays a central role, not only due to his seniority but also because of his unwavering loyalty to the party leadership.

Unlike many, Velagapudi doesn’t demand ministerial posts or show discontent over party decisions. His disciplined approach, combined with experience, has enabled him to gain significant influence within district-level politics.

Two months ago, Velagapudi orchestrated the ousting of the YSRCP mayor in the GVMC (Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation) and successfully installed a TDP-backed mayor.

Though he stayed behind the scenes, his strategy was key to the transition. This move earned him praise from senior TDP leaders.

He also shares a cordial relationship with Visakhapatnam MP M Bharat, further solidifying his position as a political force to reckon with in the region.

Sources suggest that Velagapudi is eyeing a party ticket for his son in the next election. Until then, he remains a strong pillar for the TDP and the NDA alliance, trusted fully by the party high command.

Technically, Velagapudi deserves a ministerial berth as a four-time MLA, but his community background is reportedly seen as a disadvantage. Understanding the political dynamics, he has chosen to gracefully step aside without complaint.

While former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has now become confined to his own constituency, Velagapudi’s political stature continues to grow at the district level, making him one of the most influential leaders in Visakhapatnam today.
