Spurious liquor scam: Accused gives clean chit to TDP

A new twist has emerged in the sensational spurious liquor case that has rocked Andhra Pradesh. Addepalli Janardhan, who has been named Accused No. 1 (A-1) in the case, released a video statement on social media offering his version of events.

In the video, Janardhan said that he came to know about the spurious liquor incidents in Molakalacheruvu of Annamayya district and Ibrahimpatnam of NTR district only through social media. He confirmed that his name has been listed as the prime accused (A-1) in the case.

Janardhan asserted that leaders of the TDP from Thamballapalle constituency had no connection whatsoever with the illegal liquor network. He alleged that some people were trying to politicize the issue for their personal gain.

He further mentioned that he is currently undergoing medical treatment abroad due to ill health.

It may be recalled that a large quantity of adulterated liquor was recently seized in Ibrahimpatnam. Investigators suspect that the fake liquor originated from Molakalacheruvu in Annamayya district.

Officials reportedly found liquor stocks in a warehouse belonging to Addepalli Janardhan, the A-1 in the case. They also seized spirit and empty bottles that were allegedly being used to manufacture counterfeit liquor on a large scale.

Meanwhile, reports suggesting the involvement of TDP leaders from the Thamballapalle constituency prompted the party high command to initiate an internal probe. Constituency observers have begun a detailed inquiry into the matter.

Acting on government directions, police have intensified their investigation into the fake liquor racket across the state.
