Seeking votes in the name of service!

The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission has postponed elections to urban and rural local bodies have been postponed in the state on the pretext of Coronavirus scare, but now it appears it might take quite some time to conduct the elections because the disease has become pandemic.

Candidates who had filed their nominations had already spent huge money and the postponement of elections just a few days before the polling has demoralized.

Now, the candidates are worried there is every possibility that the voters might forget them soon.

But unfortunately, these candidates, irrespective of whether they are from the YSR Congress or the Telugu Desam Party, cannot go and meet the people, let alone take up the campaign which they cannot do anyway due to postponement of the elections, because of the lockdown.

So, in a bid to ensure that they do not lose contact with the voters, the contestants for local bodies are reaching out to them in the name of supply of essential commodities to them during the lockdown period.

In several villages and urban bodies, the contestants are organizing food camps for the slum dwellers and supplying essential commodities to the poor and lower middle-class voters in the name of social service organisations.

Even in the distribution of pensions, these contestants are doing on their own along with village volunteers.

In some villages, the contestants are bearing the entire expenditure of distribution of essential commodities to all the voters.

Needless to say, the distribution is followed by polite requests to the people to vote for them in the coming elections!
