All eyes are on the Supreme Court hearing on the issue of three capitals for Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, as the suspense continues to prevail on what the apex court will say on the issue.
A division bench of the Supreme Court comprising justices K M Josesoh and B V Nagaratna will take up hearing on the special leave petition filed by the Jagan Mohan Reddy government challenging the verdict of the state high court on March 3 last year declaring Amaravati as the only capital of the state.
At the same time, a batch of petitions filed by Amaravati farmers and other individuals for and against the continuation of Amaravati as the capital city would also come up before the Supreme Court for hearing.
While the Supreme Court had earlier stayed certain points of the state high court order on completing the pending works in Amaravati within six months, it has not stayed the entire order as such, especially with regard to the competence of the state legislature to enact a legislation on three capitals.
The issue was supposed to come up for hearing on January 31 itself, but the Supreme Court deferred the same to March 28. It also refused to entertain the petitions of the state government to expedite the hearing and decide the case.
On behalf of the Jagan government, senior advocate K K Venugopal and on behalf of the farmers, Shyam Divn will argue the case.
The Jagan government is of the strong belief that the Supreme Court gives its verdict in its favour. Depending on the observations of the bench, the Jagan gpverrnment would make preparations for shifting of administrative offices to Visakhapatnam.
