RRR threatened to implicate me, says IPS officer

RRR threatened to implicate me, says IPS officer

Bihar-cadre IPS officer M Sunil Naik has accused former MP and present Andhra Pradesh assembly deputy speaker K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju of blackmailing him and threatening him to speak against former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and IPS officer P V Sunil Kumar in the alleged custodial torture case of 2021.

Taking to social media platform X, Sunil Naik alleged that RRR himself had called him to blackmail him.

“When I did not receive his call, he sent a threatening message through my friend stating: "Speak against the former CM and P.V. Sunil Kumar - or you will be made an accused."

Naik said if the RRR call data records are made public, it will reveal how many were pressured and influenced. Many were deliberately implicated in this case.

“I graduated from IIT Madras and earned my IPS position under the ST (Lambadi) quota through merit and hard work. I was topper in my school throughout,” he said.

Naik said in the earlier RRR case, he was the complainant.

“Today, I am being framed. This is nothing but a conspiracy to trap me. Just because they think that we tribals have no voice,” he said.

The Bihar-cadre IPS officer alleged that Andhra police officials who had come to Patna on Monday behaved indecently even when my mother stepped out, humiliating her.

“There has been no inquiry into massive gold gifts worth crores. No probe into sand and granite mining rackets. No investigation into land scams using an HDFC manager as a front. But is my "crime" simply this - that a Lambadi man became an IPS officer?” he asked.

“I have all the evidence. The matter is before the court. At the right time, I will place everything on record - and ensure that those who insulted my mother answer before the law,” Naik said.

On Monday, a court in Patna strongly objected to the arrest of Naik without proper procedure.

The court rejected the transit remand request in connection with the case related to RRR and pointed out serious procedural violations in the arrest process.

The Andhra police officials, instead of entering through the main gate, allegedly scaled the compound wall and entered the premises without prior intimation to the local Shastrinagar Police Station or any competent authority in Bihar.

“No arrest warrant was produced at the time of entry. When Sunil Naik asked for a warrant and whether mandatory inter-state arrest procedures had been followed, the team reportedly stated that they did not require a warrant and were not obligated to inform local police in advance,” a statement from the YSRCP said.

The Andhra police also caused distress to Sunil Naik’s 66 year old mother M Bheeki Bai. After entering the house, members of the team allegedly knocked aggressively on her door and confined her inside her room by locking it from outside.

She was released only after repeatedly pleading. The episode reportedly left the elderly woman deeply shaken.

The Patna court expressed displeasure over the manner in which the arrest was conducted and directed that Sunil Naik should not be arrested for 30 days.

The court also took note that he had earlier approached courts for legal remedies and had indicated willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
