Starting Thursday, Jana Sena Party president and deputy chief minister initiated a series of meetings with his party leaders and cadre for three days at Visakhapatnam under the banner of “Senani with Sena.”
The meetings, according to party sources, are aimed at Pawan Kalyan building stronger connections with its cadre and the public.
During these three days, the deputy chief minister will interact extensively with the party cadre and leaders.
Party sources said a large number of leaders and activists from both Telugu states are expected to attend.
The discussions will focus on current political developments and the implementation of welfare and development programmes by the coalition government.
On August 29, as many as 10 party members from each assembly constituency — who have been associated with the party since its inception — will be selected to engage in detailed discussions with the party chief.
In the evening, cultural programmes highlighting the significance of North Andhra will be held. The meetings will be conducted at the YMCA Hall on Beach Road and the Municipal Stadium.
On August 30, a massive public meeting is scheduled at the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Stadium. Pawan Kalyan is expected to reach the venue by 6 PM to address the gathering.
So far so good. But analysts wonder whether such meetings would help the party in any manner in emerging as a major political force in the coming years.
No doubt, the cadres are happy that Pawan Kalyan is dedicating significant time to guide the party, which they believe will inspire grassroots workers.
But what is required is not just review of the party position or interacting with the party cadre.
“As of now, it appears Jana Sena Party is only playing a second fiddle to the Telugu Desam Party. Majority of the party workers believe so. Pawan should make efforts to remove this feeling from the cadre and establish the party as an independent political force,” an analyst said.
Secondly, Pawan should focus on building up the party from the grassroot level, establish committees from village level to the state level, entrust them with key responsibilities and take up one programme or other to keep the party active and engaged.
“The networking of the party cadre is more important than holding routine review meetings with a few leaders at the constituency level and deliver rabble rousing speeches at the public meetings,” the analyst added.
