Rebel MP says he won due to Sharmila campaign

All these days, rebel YSR Congress party MP from Narasapuram parliamentary constituency in West Godavari district Kanumuru Raghurama Krishnam Raju had been saying that he had won the seat in 2019 elections because of his personal image, rather than party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s charisma.

On Monday, however, Raghurama Raju attributed his victory to the campaign by Jagan’s sister Y S Sharmila, who had floated a separate regional party in Telangana, differing with her brother.

Raju told reporters in New Delhi that Sharmila had played a major role in the victory of YSRC in the 2019 general elections.

“She undertook padayatra on par with her brother and campaigned for the party in the elections. Because of her efforts, the party could come to power,” he said.

He reminded that Sharmila had campaigned in Narsapuram extensively.

“She addressed four rallies in my constituency and drew huge crowds. In fact, she had put in more efforts than Jagan for the victory of the YSRC in Narsapuram,” the rebel MP said.

“It is unfortunate that Sharmila was not given the party membership despite her efforts to secure victory for the party. How can Jagan’s advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy say that she has nothing to do with the YSRCP? There is no surprise that she felt bad about Sajjala’s comments. She was definitely meted out injustice in the family,” Rahurama Raju said.

He asserted that there were definitely huge disputes between Jagan and Sharmila.

“It appears they have divided politics in two states just like they have done with their properties,” he said.

He wondered why Sharmila had not given a clean chit to her brother in the interview to Andhra Jyothy Radhakrishna.

“When asked about who would succeed Jagan if the latter goes to jail, she did not say that Jagan would not go to jail at all but would come out clean in the CBI case. That shows she has doubts over her brother’s fate,” Raju said.
