Opposition politicising even rapes, says minister

Opposition politicising even rapes, says minister

A series of rapes and murders in different part of Andhra Pradesh in the last few days have become a big challenge to the YSR Congress party government in the state; at the same time, they have given a lot of scope to the opposition parties to launch a tirade against the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

The latest incident of rape of a pregnant woman in the Tenali railway station in Guntur district on Saturday night has kicked up a lot of heat and dust in the state political circles.

It is nothing but natural that the opposition parties have used the incident to attack the Jagan government for utter lawlessness in the state.

Particularly, the Telugu Desam Party made a hue and cry over the incident and party president N Chandrababu Naidu even wrote a letter to Director General of Police for the failure of the police administration.

Naturally, it has irked the state government.

Describing it as the most unfortunate incident, state municipal administration minister from Guntur Adimulapu Suresh alleged that the opposition party were always waiting for such instances to happen and take political mileage out of it.

“They don’t even have the common sense of not disclosing the identity of the rape victim. They are using the same for their political gains. Everybody knows how Chandrababu Naidu had treated the Dalits during his regime and how many cases were booked under SC/ST atrocities act?” Suresh asked.

He said it was unfortunate that the TDP leaders were trying to politicise even payment of compensation to the victims’ families.

“Let them not make any vague comments. They should follow the traditions in such cases,” he said.

The minister claimed that the police had arrested the accused within hours and we shall take stringent action against them.
