No relief to Naidu, as HC rejects his bail plea

Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s attempt to get interim bail from the state high court in connection with the skill development case on health grounds proved futile once again.

Naidu’s lawyers on Thursday moved a petition before the high court’s vacation bench headed by Justice Venkata Jyothirmayi Pratap seeking bail on health grounds. They even submitted the medical reports given by the doctors, explaining his health conditions.

But Justice Pratap rejected the plea and recused himself from hearing the bail petition saying “not before me” for the reasons known to him.

He referred the petition to high court chief justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and asked the registrar to place the petition and other reports before the Chief Justice bench. He posted the case to October 30.

Naidu’s lawyers brought to the notice of the judge that Naidu required emergency cataract operation to his right eye.

“In June this year, he had cataract surgery for the left eye and the doctors have advised him to undergo surgery for the right eye in September. But since he was arrested in September, he could not get the surgery done,” the lawyers argued.

They also pointed out to the court that the TDP chief is suffering from other ailments like boils and rashes below his waist for which he required treatment. They told the court that he has to be treated by a team of his personal doctors and hence, required interim bail.

But the high court rejected the plea for an emergency hearing and granting of bail. The court refused to take the medical reports into cognizance and posted the case before the CJ bench only on October 30.
