Nimmagadda Says No Time To Hold MPTC, ZPTC Polls

State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, on Wednesday, left the responsibility of conducting the MPTC and ZPTC elections to his successor.

In the office proceedings, Ramesh Kumar said that most of the valuable time of the SEC was lost in the legal challenges and had left just a few days on hand.

Ramesh Kumar said that as he was scheduled to retire on March 31, 2021 and the election would require a four-week prior model code of conduct, he was ruling out the possibility of holding of elections under his charge.

Nimmagadda left the responsibility of holding the MPTC and ZPTC elections to his successor, whoever assumes the office after his retirement.

He also cited that the election staff would require covid vaccination as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, which would take some more time, besides the required model code of conduct.

Nimmagadda said that he was able to conduct the Gram Panchayat and Urban local bodies elections during his tenure.

He gave a pat on the back of the government staff and the police for their rare sense of dedication and response beyond the call of duty in holding incident-free elections.
