NGT serves notices to KTR on farmhouse issue!

The National Green Tribunal on Friday constituted a committee to investigate into the allegations made by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee working president and Malkagiri MP A Revanth Reddy against construction of farmhouse at Janwada village near Shankarpalli in Ranga Reddy district by Telangana IT minister K T Rama Rao against the rules.

The Chennai bench of the NGT served a notice on KTR and Telangana government seeking to know why the farmhouse should not be considered as an illegal structure.

The NGT appointed a committee comprising officials from Union ministry of environment and forests, Telangana state pollution control board, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, board of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), Ranga Reddy district collector and officials of tank protection department.

The committee has been asked to conduct inspections and find out whether the construction of farmhouse and other buildings were legal or illegal. The committee was also asked to make recommendations for resolution of the dispute.

The NGT asked the official committee to give the report within two months and posted the case to August 26.

It may be mentioned that Revanth Reddy in March went to Janwada village along with his followers and media persons to show them how KTR had constructed the farmhouse and other buildings against the rules. He even got the entire area picturised using drones.

Revanth said the construction was in violation of GO No. 111, which prohibits setting up industries and other structures within a 10-kilometre radius of the Himayatsagar and Osmansagar tanks.

He told reporters than that KTR had spent Rs 25 crores to build the farmhouse in the land with an estimated worth of Rs 250 crores.

The police, however, prevented him from barging into the premises of KTR farmhouse. Later, Revanth was arrested for illegally trespassing into the private premises and unauthorizedly using drone cameras for picturising the area.
