The election for the Vice President of India is around the corner, with candidates being put forward by both the ruling NDA and the opposition.
Surprisingly, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has not reached out to YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to seek his support. At the same time, the NDA has already approached Jagan, asking him to back their candidate.
This silence from Rahul Gandhi has raised many eyebrows. As the main opposition leader who claims to be working to unite all non BJP aligned parties, failing to even make a courtesy call to Jagan shows a lack of leadership and political awareness, according to observers.
Some even allege that Rahul Gandhi is acting more like a follower of TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu than an independent leader. Critics say Rahul often listens to Naidu’s advice and decisions and so didn't call Jagan.
They also say that Rahul made YS Sharmila, the Congress chief in Andhra Pradesh only because of Naidu’s recommendation. Many within the Congress itself believe she has been ineffective and unable to revive the party in the state.
Despite this, Rahul continues to keep her in the position, which gives weight to the claims that he is heavily influenced by Chandrababu Naidu.
His decision not to reach out to Jagan for Vice President polls is being seen as another sign of Rahul's loyalty to CBN, poor strategy and weak leadership, leaving many opposition supporters disappointed.
