Telugu Desam Party-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh headed by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, which will be completing its one year in office next month, has so far had a smooth sailing without much criticism from the people.
But for the first time, Naidu appears to be facing the wrath of one section of the employees. On Wednesday, municipal workers across the state announced a strike starting from May 20.
They issued strike notices demanding the resolution of pending issues, including the implementation of a minimum wage of Rs 26,000.
Representatives of the AP Municipal Workers' Union submitted strike notices to municipal administration officials.
AP Municipal Workers' Union State General Secretary Porumamilla Subbaraidu demanded that the minimum wage be increased to Rs 26,000 and that unresolved issues be addressed.
Additionally, they alleged that contract and outsourcing staff in the municipal department are being removed from their jobs.
With a call for justice for municipal workers, the union announced that the strike will begin on May 20.
