Naidu diverting Amaravati floods to Guntur

Naidu diverting Amaravati floods to Guntur

YSR Congress party, which has been against the construction of capital city at Amaravati, has come out with a fresh allegation on Saturday saying that the Chandrababu Naidu government has been diverting flood water from Amaravati to adjacent areas in Guntur district, resulting in inundation of thousands of acres of fertile land.

YSRCP leader and in-charge of Ponnur assembly constituency Ambati Murali Krishna said Naidu, in his eagerness to prevent submergence of Amaravati capital city area due to heavy rains and floods to streams, has ordered diversion of flood water to agriculture fields in Guntur district, which has been devastated by heavy rains.

“Despite the presence of three state ministers and one Union minister from the region, farmers of Guntur have been left to suffer without any support or intervention,” he alleged.

Murali Krishna, brother of former minister Ambati Rambabu, said that floodwater from the capital region was diverted into nearby villages, submerging Namburu overnight and causing massive crop losses across thousands of acres.

“Across eight constituencies of Guntur district, vast tracts of farmland remain underwater, destroying farmers’ livelihoods,” he alleged.

Murali Krishna expressed anger that Ministers Nara Lokesh, Nadendla Manohar, Anagani Satya Prasad, and Union Minister Pemmasani had completely ignored the crisis.

“The government, which often speaks about agriculture and farmers, has abandoned them in their darkest hour,” he said.

He further pointed out that even on Independence Day, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu chose to speak about liquor but failed to address the burning problems of farmers.

He highlighted the government’s neglect of irrigation infrastructure, stating that the 47 km-long Nallamala canal was left choked and blocked, with officials simply spraying weedicide instead of clearing it.

“This negligence has worsened the flooding and increased crop damage,” he remarked.

Murali Krishna demanded that the government immediately come to the aid of farmers, stop political exploitation, and prioritize public welfare over corruption and rhetoric.
