Modi didn't mention my name, grumbles Naidu

Ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Hyderabad and took part in the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Indian School of Business on Thursday, Telugu Desam Party social media groups and fans of party president N Chandrababu Naidu have been flooding the social media with their messages recalling his efforts to establish the institution in 2001.

A blog purported to have been written by Naidu, explaining how he managed to bring the ISB to Hyderabad, has been put into circulation in the social media and that has become viral across the world.

On Friday, Naidu made a mention of the same in his speech at Mahanadu, the TDP’s biennial conclave being held at Ongole.

He was a little upset with the Prime Minister for not even mentioning his name while addressing the ISB graduates at the Thursday’s event.

He recalled how his all-out efforts could finally bring the Indian School of Business (ISB) to Hyderabad in the combined state.

“The Prime Minister addressed ISB 20th annual day celebrations. It brought back many memories to me. But he did not mention my name,” he said.

However, he said it would not matter much to him.

“It’s okay. I did that for my Telugu race and it gives me satisfaction," quipped Naidu.

The TDP chief recalled that when he had sent an invitation to the ISB think tank, they said they were considering Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai with Hyderabad not even on their list.

"I requested them over the phone to come for breakfast and coffee. I sent my Ministers to receive them at the airport. I served them meals personally. Lot of effort was made for that."

Naidu said the then Prime Minister Vajpayee came and laid the foundation stone for ISB Hyderabad. It became a jewel eventually.

“The TDP brought hundreds of such jewels for the sake of Telugu people. Genome Valley came to the rescue of the entire country at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic,” he said.

Naidu pointed out that the people of neighbouring State were reaping rich benefits out of the institutions and projects brought by the TDP regime. A new direction was given to shift from physical labour to mind-based endeavours.

“This was why IT was developed in a big way. Now, the Telugu girls were going abroad and earning more than their male counterparts,” he claimed.
