Lokesh facing arrest for 'red book' threat?

The Crime Investigation Department authorities of Andhra Pradesh police, who have been trying to fix Telugu Desam Party general secretary Nara Lokesh in various criminal cases, has found one more reason to throw him behind the bars ahead of the assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

On Friday, the CID authorities served notices on Lokesh for threatening the top police officials of the state saying he was entering their names in the “Red Book” and they would be punished once the TDP comes to power.

The CID officials on Friday approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court and informed the judge about ‘Red Book’ which is a violation of the terms of Section 41A of the CrPC.

After hearing their plea, the court directed the CID officials to serve notices to Lokesh. Lokesh confirmed receipt of the notices through a reply to the CID on WhatsApp.

The case is posted further hearing of the petition filed by the CID for the arrest of Lokesh to January 9, 2024.

The Red Book contains names of government officials, especially police officers, against whom action should be initiated immediately after the TDP returns to power in Andhra Pradesh.

The officials, Lokesh said, caused inconvenience to him during the Yuva Galam padayatra and created hurdles bypassing the law, apart from those who had been foisting false cases against his family and other TDP leaders. Top of the list is Y Rishanth Reddy, the Superintendent of Police in Chittoor.
