The arrest of YSR Congress Party MP P. Midhun Reddy and the filing of a chargesheet by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the alleged liquor scam have significantly intensified the political climate in Andhra Pradesh.
In addition to Midhun Reddy, several other YSRCP leaders and government officials have also been arrested in connection with the case.
What has sent shockwaves through the party is the naming of YSRCP chief and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as the ultimate beneficiary of the scam.
Meanwhile, several other YSRCP leaders are entangled in various legal cases, prompting the party leadership to consider it high time to mount a strong resistance and launch a counter-offensive against the ruling NDA coalition.
In this context, Jagan held high-level discussions with senior party leaders and is reportedly planning a trip to Delhi.
Deeply concerned by the recent developments, Jagan is said to be consulting top legal experts on the chargesheet and other legal matters involving party leaders.
Jagan reportedly termed Midhun Reddy’s arrest a politically motivated move and a mistake.
The party is considering filing formal complaints at the national level over what it sees as targeted legal actions against its members.
Jagan is contemplating personally visiting Delhi to brief central leaders on the ongoing situation.
He also plans to clarify the liquor-related transactions that took place during his tenure as Chief Minister from 2014 to 2019.
With Parliament currently in session, YSRCP leaders believe this is an opportune time to raise the issue on the national stage.
Simultaneously, TDP leaders, now part of the NDA government at the Centre, have announced plans to raise the liquor scam issue in Parliament as well.
It remains unclear whether Jagan will travel to Delhi himself or send senior leaders and MPs to lodge the complaints. A final decision is expected by Tuesday or Wednesday.
In parallel, there is talk of approaching the Supreme Court, with Jagan already in consultation with senior legal experts as the party prepares for a full-fledged legal battle.
Despite the challenges, he is also planning to resume party activities across various districts to rally support.
